WhatsApp link generator

Create a link that opens a WhatsApp chat with your number, with a message already typed. Share it anywhere, print it as a QR code, or add it to your website as a button.

Appears in the chat box when the link opens. The person still taps send.

Without a number, the link opens WhatsApp and lets the person choose who to send the message to.

QR code

Print it on packaging, a menu or a shop window. Scanning it opens the chat with your message ready.

WhatsApp chat QR code
  1. Pick the country of the number, or choose the + option and type the number with its country code.
  2. Type the WhatsApp number. Spaces, dashes, brackets and a leading zero are fine, the tool removes them.
  3. Write the message you want to appear in the chat box, or leave it empty.
  4. Copy the link, download the QR code, or copy the HTML button for your website.

WhatsApp's click-to-chat links have the form https://wa.me/<number>?text=<message>.

  • The number must be in full international format, written as digits only: the country code, then the number, with no plus sign, spaces, dashes, brackets or leading zero. +213 0555 12 34 56 becomes 213555123456.
  • The message is URL-encoded, so spaces become %20 and line breaks %0A. The tool does this for you.
  • On a phone the link opens the WhatsApp app. On a computer it opens WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web.
  • The message is only a suggestion. The person can edit it, and nothing is sent until they tap send.

A link without a number, https://wa.me/?text=..., opens WhatsApp and lets the person choose who to send the message to. That is useful for "share with a friend" buttons.

  • Website and online shop: a chat button on product and contact pages.
  • Instagram, TikTok and Facebook bios: one tap from your profile to a conversation.
  • Ads: send people straight to a chat with a message that tells you which ad they came from.
  • Print: QR codes on packaging, receipts, menus, flyers and shop windows.
  • Email signatures and invoices: a quick way to ask a question about an order.

Use a different pre-filled message for each place, such as "Hi, I saw your Instagram post", to see where your conversations come from.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need WhatsApp Business to use a wa.me link?

No. Click-to-chat links work with both the WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business apps, and with any number registered on WhatsApp.

Why does my link say the number is not on WhatsApp?

Either the number is not registered on WhatsApp, or it was written in the wrong format. Check that the country code is right and that you removed the leading zero of the local number. The tool shows whether the number is valid for the country you chose.

Can I put emojis and line breaks in the message?

Yes. The tool encodes them so they survive in the link. Keep the message short, it is a starting point for the conversation.

Does the QR code expire?

No. The QR code contains the link itself, so it works for as long as the number is on WhatsApp. If you change number, make a new code.

Is anything I type stored?

No. The link and the QR code are built in your browser.
